FINAL PHOTOGRAPHS

The Christmas cards-  Would be sold separately, however, if I managed my time better and had a bit more money to spare, I would have created more than six, and they would have been sold in threes..
Packaged in film and a belly band with the 'bah humbug' logo..

Inside theres a message- 'happy crappy christmas'

Gift labels- sold in threes.. a different saying on each card..

The range altogether, with the gift bag- looking now, I should have packaged that too.. but I ran out of stock.. but should have branded it..

Would have liked to have done more wrapping paper, and found the right stock for that to have been printed onto, but as a 'mock up' just used A4 and packaged it.

BOARDS

EVALUATION- OUGD203

At the beginning of this brief, I was really excited to make my own brief, however, I didn't realise how difficult it would be..
There was so many different aspects I liked in the YCN and ISTD briefs, I found it difficult to focus and make a question..

When I came up with my title, I then found it hard to actually get into it.. whenever I found some kind of solution, I ended up at a dead end, and frustrated.. However, the crits were really helpful, and I got some really good feedback and advice on what I could look into more..

If I was able to go back and do the brief again, I think I would be more decisive and start designing earlier than I did.. I realised I was just writing a lot down, but not actually doing anything!
I would have also liked to do the embossing, however, when I did it in my experiments, it was very hit and miss if it worked.. so maybe look into more stock choices, to see if it would have worked better on them..
I think also, if I had been more organised, and not worrying about other things in my life, I would have been able to do more of a range, which is annoying, because when I got into designing the final pieces, I got into it..

Overall, I like how my cards turned out, I think they look very handmade and appealing.. I think some of the 'hidden words' could have been more hidden, but I still wanted them to be just noticed.
And also looking back, it slipped my mind, but I wanted to take photographs of the range as if it was a gift for someone on christmas..

OTHER HOLIDAYS..

Valentines day is a pretty obvious FAKE day.. meant more for the girls than the guys really.. so I reckon this is how the guys will be feeling when the 14th February roles by..

Emphasising how repetitive and boring Valentines day is.. with 'again' and 'bloody'
The wrapping paper.. which would be done in different colours..

PROPOSED WEBSITE

Really not that keen on the colours above.. too dull, but makes me feel a little sick.. Maybe just stick with the colours that I have used on the cards etc..

With the darker background..

I made the logo a bit bigger, so it stood out more.. and also added in a paragraph under the image, which would explain the product a little bit..

Quite like the darker webpage, rather than having that pastel blue as the background.. need to look at the composition.. the dark blue box is too high up.. out of proportion really..

FINAL LABEL DESIGN..

Each have 2 different colours.. maybe add one more to each..
I have decided on a rectangular and circular label.. but to make them look a bit more 'gifty', I want them to look a bit 'handmade'.. so maybe layering card..

The final idea for cards..

Probably not grey.. but I will find a nice colour card..
With something inside the card.. 'happy crappy christmas'..

FROM FINAL CRIT:

From the crit, I have got a few things to think about..

- colour of card = the reason I chose to use a dark stock was to reinforce the feeling of christmas actually being depressing.. however for my wrapping paper, I have used some bright colours.. this needs to be thought about..

I am going to look at what other papers are available in town.. as I'm not keen on any in the library..

- The layout of text.. In some cases, the type doesn't work and there is a large white space which makes the card look a bit off..

- The embossing.. Works better on the thicker stock.. however, someone said that they preferred the lighter cards.. other idea = to have the embossed word in a light colour.. maybe do both?
I am also thinking of doing small embossing on the envelop for the 'bah humbug' brand.. think it would look nicer if it was more subtle.

- Propose cards for another 'fake' holiday, maybe valentines day.

One main weakness was my boards.. I didn't put much time into them, so I agree.. however, for the final boards, I will be making sure I have enough time to put the right information on them to communicate my idea.. think about hierarchy, pt size, layout of images..
Also for final boards... think about how to photograph product effectively.. for example.. wrapping up a gift in my wrapping paper..

- Need to show my website ideas on blog too.. how it will look in context.

CARDS

Embossing didn't really work well on normal paper.. needs to be quite thick..

Works quite nicely.. maybe do 2 different colours for each card..

I chose a dark paper to reinforce the feeling of.. a shitty kinda christmas.. I think the embossing works better on it too.. I want to tidy them up a bit.. and will also have to change some colours of the words, as some are difficult to read on the paper...

I want to find a more interesting stock.. I think they look pretty boring at the moment..

Need to work out what shape works best for the label.. find some nice ribbon to print on to as well..

DESIGNS

One colour with another colour over the top.. I'd like the words to be a little less noticeable..

Need to look at opacity and colour more..

Someone said in the crit to look at showing certain words..
Changing opacity.. what will this look like with different colour..

Not liking the idea much.. AT ALL..
Go look back at layout..

I want the word CRAP to be hidden almost.. experimenting with opacity and that.. to see if I can get it to show through..
TYPEFACE..
'Christmas' typeface is good for that word.. I also think 'crap' is in the right typeface.. the roundness of it is good and think it looks the way way it would be said.. :S
'Again'.. I like the oldness of it.. it looks worn out, which would be the feeling I want.. maybe getting somewhere now..
With no opacity:
not sure if the colour's right.. or the layout.. I quite like the pastel colour and I think it works better than the bright colour below..

I like the blue colour.. it's a cold colour, which would work well with the cold feelings towards christmas.. try to hide the 'crap' a bit more..
Other phrases for the range..

On the card..
I need to look into the stock that I want to print on.. I would like the paper to be off white.. but have a nice texture to it..
Gift tag idea.. matching the christmas card..
And changed the background colour slightly.. same as 'not' but changed opacity.. 'not' is more hidden now..

Needs something around the words.. it's just floating at the moment..
Different colour.. not so keen on it.. I like the idea of keeping it simple and leaving the card I am going to print on that colour.. and change the colour of the type..

Look at different colour.. something small needs to be added
Maybe adding an outline of bells..?
Are the words read in the right order.. need to check it ouuut!!

Maybe look at printing it out and embossing the hidden words?

Wrapping paper design ideas:

Again I would like to find a thin stock that is slightly off white..
I like the pattern of the words.. think it works nicely..
I have done different colour paper.. depending on who its getting wrapped up for.. male/female etc..
