SOME IDEAS

SILENT MOVIE

The 3 words I have to work with are:

- BOUNCE
- CRUNCH
- EXPAND

We are allowed to use black & white and one more colour.
Below, I have had a quick experiment with what kind of typeface I want to use for BOUNCE and the colour combination.

I wanted the typeface to be sans serif and be quite bold. However, the bottom typeface, 'Cooper Std' works quite well, as the word looks quite 'bouncy' as it is, even though there are serifs.

The reason I have added 'O' is because one of my ideas was to make the 'O' bounce out of the word... and also, the 'O' might appear in another screen, so I wanted the 'O' to be remembered, as the actual word 'bounce' wouldn't be there.

I prefer the black background, as I think the letters stand out more.

The reason I have got a stencil of "bounce" was because I was thinking of making one screen where "bounce" crushes "crunch" and so it needed to look like it was strong. And this particular font reminds me of the army.

PDF

Bleed: extra bit of colour around the packaging and label, incase the package is cut slightly off. Then it won't be noticed as much.

Add bleed, trim marks etc... printing PDF.

Image showing the flat form of packaging that would be printed before cutting out.

EVALUATION

Evaluation for boards:

I am really disappointed with my boards, as they didn't print out how I imagined. On screen, the images looked good, not dark or pixelated.
If I has enough money, I would print out again to change this, and also, there are a few spaces that don't look right.. these could somehow be filled with a line or pattern...

Evaluation for Packaging:

I am really pleased with my idea, and I like how unusual the packaging is.
I think I managed to experiment with the packaging, adding the ring and labels to develop it, however, I'm not particularly happy with the quality.
I wasn't able to print the packaging at digital print, so I stuck the design onto card, which didn't work out as planned, as it didn't fold properly, creased a lot and the paper came off the card.

I wanted to work more with stock, to find a material that worked best. I also needed a stock that was 'weaker' than the ring around the packaging, to make sure it stayed closed.

There are a few things I would like to add to improve the package now I have made them:
- Score where the points will be folded down.
- Add cuts to the packaging, which will hold the rings in place.
- I wanted a 'window' in the package, so you can see inside, I didn't manage to add this in, but it would be good to experiment with this.

I wanted to make some packaging for the products that are going to be sold in multi-packs. I found the type of package I wanted, but I ran out of time to design and make one. I need to be more organised with my time and make a list of what i need to do- set targets!

Monday, 22 November 2010

I have decided to print out my packages as normal and stick them to a thicker stock instead of going to the digital dungeons.. as I have limited amount of money to spend on this..

Problem I have had is:

Scoring the package.. I forgot and didn't realise that scoring the paper on top of the card makes the top layer come off.. so I have messed up one package.

Also, the ring that wold keep the package together is the same material, and this doesn't work either, as the package is too strong.. I will have to make the circles stronger.. adding more card to them!?

NEW DESIGNS

On this admiral butterfly packaging, I changed a couple of things-
  • Made the type the same colours as the colours on the packaging
  • Made the label (inner circle) to the lighter colour on the packaging
  • Also changed the brand font colour, so it matches the package
Quite like that it all fits together with the colour.
Need to change the 3 circles on the brand name so they don't clash.. need to a neutral colour that will go with anything, so I don't have to keep changing it on each package.

AFTER THE CRIT

LIST OF WHAT I NEED TO DO:

  1. Labels to go one the outside to give instruction how to open the product
  2. Make the design so it also colours the inside of the points
  3. Put different recipe ideas on the inside of the packaging
  4. Get some plastic stuff to put the insects inside, to 'preserve' them
  5. Change the colour of 2 of the packages, to reflect the insect more
  6. Re-do the A2 boards as discussed in crits

OOO IDEA

After talking to another second year, he gave me some advice on how I could keep the triangular package closed.

by using a 'O' to go round the middle of the package

However, the name on the package is difficult to see with this ring, so I am going to look at putting the name onto the ring as well.. or instead of.

The stock for this 'O' needs to be strong and thick, to make sure that it stays where it is.

Brief idea of what I am thinking of doing.
Finding it difficult to get the words to balance around the eclipse.
Is there another way to put the words on the ring, so people notice it, but it's maybe a bit smaller.. maybe it could be repeated again round the circle..

Maybe there could be a use for these rings? think about it..

POSTER

Really simple posters that would be seen in bus stops.
I think they will need more information on them, as people might not understand them.

I want to keep them simple so people may want to find out more.

'In your local supermarket now' - may need that on, so people will know its food related.

I want to do like a 3D poster type thing.

EVALUATE MY BOARDS

Had difficulty printing out my boards on A3 because of SOMETHING.. I don't know..
But... I re-designed my boards similar to what I had before.
They are only in A4, but I think that they might be too busy (there's a lot of colour going on) especially with the background and the clash with photographs..

How could I improve this?

Change opacity on the background, so the images in foreground stand out more?

We have a crit tomorrow, so will get a few more ideas from that!

5X A2 BOARDS

This will be photograph of the different packages available (with different insects)
Photo of muli-packs as well as single ones.

[Not keen on the top photograph] Below is a close up of the nutrition information and the logo..  more information will be needed on there.

Board to show where my advertisement would be seen.. this would be the lorry that takes my products to the supermarkets/shops.. so it would be seen by people who drive, possibly people who do the shopping (that drive to supermarket)

Posters would also be seen on billboards, maybe in the local town/bus stops/petrol stations.

SLIGHTLY CHANGED LAYOUT:

On this board: Title, Concept, Target Audience

On this board: information on product.. different packages for different insects

On the image on this board, I will photoshop my design onto the lorry.. but for the time being, it's another advertisement.

Need a final board.. not sure what information to put on? FINAL IMAGE WITH CRICKETS!

SOME PHOTOGRAPHS

Above is an idea for slightly changing the packaging for a different insect type.
I am going to experiment with changing the colours of the sky and grass slightly.. see how they work together.

With both packages together, I think they work well together. I would like to have all my products packaged together (smaller ones) so they are sold in multi-packs as well as singular.

Still need to find a way of keeping the triangle tops together, before they are opened by consumer.

Added on the logo and nutrition information. Others to add may include, recycle sign, information about preserving the food etc... [think about]

Another design for the packaging, using a camouflage almost. I think there is too much going on, and the colours aren't great.

Dutch&Harley font: Needed the names to stand out more, and I think this works when the letters are outlined in black.

All my mock ups together. I think I am going to carry on designing with the grass designed packages, looking at different colours and other ways to develop this piece of packaging... how can they stay together? how will they sit in the supermarket together?

SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT

SOME MORE DESIGN

Just a small idea of how I want the outside of the packaging to look.
Need to find space for the logo, the name, nutrition information, bar code, information about the food...

Maybe I could make another box to hold the triangular packages.. too much?
