I made a ring binded reference book. which holds information about what we did through the year. I haven't managed to put everything in that I wanted: such as individual time lines of the briefs and designers we all look at to inspire us for projects.
Also in the book, I would have liked to add in separate notes pages, so that the user could add in their own experiences.
I also wanted to have a pack of sweets within the pack and a 'sweetie' pen, that would be used to write in the book with.
If I had more time, and if i had organised my time better, I wanted to make a 'goody pack' type packaging, so that you can open the pack up as if they were haribo.
I looked into the building block idea, and above is the box layout. There would be quite a lot of these boxes made, so you could make your own timeline with them.
I have found a way to make the box pop up, by cutting 2 opposite sides diagonally a d folding them.
To make it pop up, there needs to be elastic inside.
Having them pop up and folded would make them easy to store and also quite fun to play with.
I was unsure about what scale to do these boxes, but I have decided that they would need to be quite small, so you don't need a lot of space to build with them.
Above: tried to make a timeline that shows the month, rather than separate weeks.. and finding it harder than expected.
Worked with this, but really complicated and unsure if it actually makes sense!!
This is the key that would be included in to product, to inform the reader ( new student ) what the sweet means.
So i decided to use the computer, taking photographs of the sweets separately, so I would be able to repeat them when needed.
I found this was quicker and works well, though it still takes quite a long time getting them in order and laying them out, so everything fits.
When the week gets more crowded thats when I'll be having more difficulties.
I set out a timeline using sweets, but not using the computer.
This works really well, and in the right light, and the right graph paper behind, this would work really well.. however, i made a decision to not do the timeline by hand, due to the time I have left. I thought that it would take too long, and was unsure that I'd have enough sweets.
Above: sweets I have collected and photographed
Here I have been looking at symbols, drawing out some different ideas. How ever, they don't really link together in anyway, which is what I want.
Also thought about what I could produce and what product the timeline would eventually turn into..
Above= work in sketch book. Looking into symbols, that could be used for final product.
found it difficult to make them interesting and easy to look at.
Couldn't get them 'fun' and 'exciting'.
One of my ideas.. creating symbols and icons to represent what we do at uni...
In my sketchbook, I have experimented with many drawings and symbols that could be used as representations for what we have done this year.
However, I feel as though there is something missing in these drawings, and I don't think they are attention grabbing or anything exciting.
I need to look at other objects that could be used to show these:
